Heads up, Toronto! Heavy rainfall is expected this weekend

A special weather statement is in effect for Toronto as heavy rainfall is expected this weekend. 

On Friday, Environment Canada issued a statement about significant rainfall set to start late on Friday through Saturday in the GTA. 

“A low pressure system will bring widespread rain across southern Ontario this weekend. Periods of rain will begin over southwestern Ontario late this afternoon and progress eastward overnight,” the national weather agency said in a statement.  

Environment Canada estimates five to 10mm of rain on Friday and 10 to 15mm of rain on Saturday, however, the exact amount is unknown. 

The rain is expected to taper to flurries Saturday night as colder air moves into the region.

On Friday, a mix of sun and cloud is expected throughout the day with a high of 9 C and a low of 7 C.

A high of 8 C on Saturday and a low of -1 C. On Sunday, flurries and cloudy periods are expected with a high of 2 C and a low of -5 C.
