There’s a happy ending for Toronto dog Max who was abandoned earlier this month with a letter. He has found a new home.
The Toronto Humane Society (THS) announced the three-year- old dog had been adopted last week after gaining interest from several different families.
“His new family already loves him so much and he has a new dog sibling too!” the charity said in a news release on Monday.
On Apr. 3, Max was found in the Primrose Avenue Parkette area in the Davenport neighbourhood. His past owner left a handwritten note with him outlining a few of Max’s characteristics as well as the reasons why they had to part with him.
In the note, they described Max as very smart, good with kids and all in all, a “good boy.” They even mentioned that Max is turning four years old in June.
The owner said they could no longer support Max because they had lost their job and apartment and in turn, could not afford to take care of him.
On April 10, the THS said they were able to connect with Max’s previous owner, however after a thorough discussion, the family decided it would be best for Max to find a new home.
In a video posted on Twitter, the organization refers to rising costs of living and inflation as reasons why pet owners are finding it more difficult to care for their pets.
With services such as the urgent care program, THS is able to provide temporary foster homes for animals whose owners are facing challenging circumstances.
“We are thrilled that Max has found a new, loving, family to spend the rest of his life with! Max serves as just one example of many animals that we see each year at Toronto Humane Society. As the economic environment continues to cause people to make tough decisions, our Programs and Services, like Urgent Care, are going to be in higher demand,” DVM, MBA, CEO at Toronto Humane Society, Jacques Messier, said in the release.
