Hundreds march in Toronto to commemorate the Nakba

Pro-Palestine protest in Toronto with demonstrators holding Palestinian flags during daytime rally.

Palestinian activists and supporters marched on Sunday, May 15, to mark the 74th anniversary of the Nakba (or “catastrophe” in Arabic), which refers to the estimated 750,000 Palestinians displaced by war following the creation of the state of Israel in 1948. They also gathered to condemn the killing of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, who witnesses say was shot by Israeli forces conducting a raid in the occupied West Bank last week. Israel has denied responsibility for the journalist’s killing.
