Ontario’s police watchdog is looking into the killing of a Toronto man after he was run over by a TTC bus this week.
After a 55-year-old man was fatally pinned under a bus near Ossington Avenue and Bloor Street West on Dec. 10, an investigation has been opened by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) to look into the matter.
According to a news release from the SIU, Toronto police officers at the Ossington Subway Station encountered a man who was behaving strangely on Tuesday night.
They spoke with the man before leaving the area.
Then shortly before 8:30 p.m., a Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) bus was turning right to go south onto Ossington Ave. before the man fell onto the roadway where he was pinned underneath the right side of the bus, the SIU said.
The man was brought to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Toronto police described the man as Asian, five feet, four inches tall, about 176 pounds, and was wearing green camouflage pants, a dark-coloured winter jacket and a brown toque.
On Wednesday, the police asked residents, businesses and drivers to help identify the man and to come forward with any security camera footage of the area or incident.
A post-mortem exam took place on Thursday morning, according to the SIU.
Two investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to look into the situation.
