My Toronto: David Miller

Rating: NNNNN

People never seem to tire of asking me what I love most about this city, and I never tire of answering. I have spoken many times about this city’s diversity, its vibrancy, and its beauty. I have spoken about the shopping, the great theatre, the food and the nightlife. I’ve spoken about the transit system, our parks and public squares, and our safe streets. I have spoken about the generosity, friendliness and creativity of Toronto residents.

The thing I love most about Toronto, though, is that there is always something new to love about it. This city changes so quickly and is so full of surprises that you can never know it completely. There’s always something else to discover.

Sometimes it’s a big change. For the past few months I’ve been watching the beautiful new Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts take shape at the corner of University and Queen. This project, like so many others in our city, both raises the bar on architectural elegance and adds to our dynamic cultural scene.

Other times it’s a small change. I was meeting with residents and businesses near Albion and Finch recently, and discovered a newly planted flower garden that had replaced a previously abandoned corner of public space. I love these surprises. They’re what this city is all about. They happen in every neighbourhood, and each one makes me feel luckier than ever to live here.
