Canadians are voicing frustrations over the newly released price of the Nintendo Switch 2 console.
Nintendo released the prices for the console on Wednesday, and it will cost Americans $449 USD when it’s released on June 5, and $499 if buyers choose to purchase a copy of Mario Kart World.
However, the same console will cost Canadians $629 CAD, and if customers choose to purchase the accompanied Mario Kart World game, then it will cost $699. Currently $1 USD equals $1.40 CAD.
In comparison, when Nintendo Switch was first released in 2017, it cost Canadians $399.
When factoring in different tax systems set in place by provinces, customers in areas like Ontario and Quebec could be paying closer to $800.

While it’s typically expected for products in Canada to cost more after exchange rates are converted, Canadian gamers and consumers are still unhappy with the large price difference.
“Everything is so damn expensive here,” one Reddit user said.
“This is so disappointing. Lifelong Nintendo fan here and this will be the first console I don’t get [on] day one. Unfortunately that’s just well beyond my budget,” another Reddit user said.
“I’ll pass on this,” another user said.
One Reddit user said that “playing games in Canada is tough.”
“The price never moves in your favor except during sales, which doesn’t exist for Nintendo games,” the user said.
Some social media users said they’ll simply wait until prices drop to purchase the Nintendo Switch, even if it means waiting a year or longer. While others said they’ll simply buy a different console at a cheaper price.
Nintendo gamers will have a chance to pre-order the console by registering through their Nintendo account, they’ll then be sent an invitation on May 8 to make a purchase.
Buyers will have 72 hours to complete their purchase once the invitation is sent, according to Nintendo.
