Rob Ford on the cover of NOW: a retrospective

Before Rob Ford was elected the mayor of Toronto, Blue Rodeo had the title for earning the highest number of cover appearances in NOW magazine’s history (four).

The former mayor, who died of cancer on Tuesday, broke that record. Since 2010, the unpredictable, controversial Rob Ford appeared on the cover of NOW Magazine 11 times.

“My most memorable NOW Ford cover was the very first one back in March of 2011,” says our creative director Troy Beyer. “My thinking was basic. Let’s strip him bare. Let’s expose him for who he really is. One of NOW’s great photographers David Hawe found us a body double, and after a few hours in the studio and a couple of hours of Photoshop, the rest is history.”

Flip through our gallery of covers below to look back on our takes on Toronto’s most memorable mayor. One thing’s for certain: while our Photoshop skills proved to be quite excellent, our predictive powers weren’t. We had no idea just how fiercely Ford would cling to his position of power through his single term as mayor of Toronto:
