Technical difficulties at Scotiabank Theatre on Thursday led to the cancellation of a screening on the first day of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
Theatregoers attending an early morning showing of Jason Yu’s Horror feature Sleep, were left to entertain themselves due to a reported glitch in the IMAX’s software.
The technical difficulties occurred in screen 12 of Scotiabank theatre, a similar problem reportedly interrupted a screening of box-office smash Oppenheimer earlier this summer.
Fans took to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, to vent their frustrations over the festival hiccup.
“Still 50 of us waiting on the street for an update 20 mins after the Sleep screening was scheduled to start in the IMAX,” one user wrote.
“If you’re keeping score, I am 0 for 3 @TIFF_NET movies I tried to see today, two of which I was assigned to review. Don’t plan on seeing anything in Scotia 12 today because it won’t happen. Good luck to everyone now playing schedule dominos,” another critic wrote, signalling the cancellations may have a knock-on effect on upcoming showings.
Now Toronto reached out to TIFF for a statement, but did not hear back in time for publication, organizers have not made an official statement on the matter.
TIFF runs from Sept. 7 – Sept, 17.
