
Toronto drivers are spending nearly 200 hours per year in traffic, according to a new study revealing the world’s worst cities for driving.
The study, by British car leasing company Nationwide Vehicle Contracts, looked at the most visited cities for tourism from worlddata.info in order to discover the most difficult places for drivers to travel in.
The study used a number of factors to provide a ranking for each country using an index score out of 100. Factors include time spent in rush hour per year, average speed in rush hour, fuel prices, and average precipitation, among others.

As a result, researchers compiled a list of 15 of the worst cities for drivers. In this list, Toronto came in at 13th place, just trailing behind Bangkok,Thailand and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The study says Toronto drivers have spent 199 hours per year in rush hour. Furthermore, the average speed in rush hour is 14.6 miles per hour (23.4 km). The average travel time per 10 kilometers for Torontonians is 22 minutes and 30 seconds.
Overall, Toronto’s score came out to 48 out of 100. Currently, public transit projects, such as the Eglinton Crosstown LRT and Ontario Line, are major contributors to the slow flow of traffic in the downtown core.
As for the number one worst city to drive in, Brussels, Belgium takes the top spot with a score of 23 out of 100. The study says in Brussels, the average driver spends 236 hours in rush hour a year, with the average speed being 12.4 miles per hour (19 km).
