This may come as a surprise, but Toronto is considered one of the top places around the world that people would want to move to.
Digital financial services provider Remitly analyzed global search data for 164 countries to discover which city residents in each country wants to move to the most and according to its findings, Toronto made the top ten.
Remitly used Google search data to uncover the annual search volume (October 2022 to September 2023) in 164 countries for the term “move to.” The most searched-for location was used as the top destination for the specific country and the overall rankings were found by totalling the number of times each city was featured as the number one choice of another country.
Remitly found that Dubai is the top destination when it comes to cities people would like to relocate to the most, with 60 countries choosing the luxurious city. In second place was Miami and in third place was Paris.
“Dubai, the most populous city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and famed for its year-round sunshine, tax-free salaries and growing multicultural population, proved a clear favourite amongst countries including Fiji, Denmark and the United Kingdom,” the press release read.
As for Canadians, the provider also asked residents where they would live within the country and Calgary came out as the most popular city, favoured by six provinces. Trailing behind is Toronto with two provinces favouring the city as their relocation destination of choice.
When it comes to a destination outside the country, Dubai remains at the top of the rankings for the place Canadians would want to move to the most. Dubai was featured as the number one city for seven of the ten Canadian provinces.
