The City of Toronto opened a brand new park and named it after a well respected Indigenous leader.

Dr. Lillian McGregor, of White Fish River First Nation, was a nurse, trailblazer and a respected member of the Indigenous community in Toronto.

The problem? Her name is misspelled in the park’s sign.

The signage in her honour was missing the letter “L” and was spelled “Lilian” instead of “Lillian.”

“So much for fact checking,” one Twitter user wrote.

“Too bad they spelled her name incorrectly,” another user said.

McGregor was widely recognized for her work in promoting Indigenous culture and education before she died in 2012.

The University of Toronto even has an Indigenous award in her name.

The new 6,400-square metre park in downtown Toronto officially opened to the public  on Tuesday.

“Replacement signs have been ordered and will be installed as soon as possible,” the city told Now Toronto in an email statement on Friday.
