The City of Toronto will be implementing a “limited activity zone” around the Rogers Centre and the downtown core to prepare for the influx of crowds for Taylor Swift’s shows in November.
The pop sensation will be in town for her Eras Tour, with six shows happened between Nov. 14-23. The star is expected to generate approximately $282 million for the city’s economy, according to Destination Toronto CEO Andrew Weir.
However, the city predicts the concerts will apply pressure on Toronto’s transportation network and infrastructure during this time.
“Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is expected to have a significant impact on Toronto’s transportation network during the two-week period in mid- to late November during which her six shows are taking place,” a City spokesperson said in a statement to Now Toronto on Monday.

As a result, to mitigate traffic congestion, the city is introducing a “limited activity zone” in the downtown area.
“Planned work that requires a road occupation permit (such as construction, film, utility cuts) will be limited to certain off-peak hours on non-concert dates and will require approval from the City to take place during this period. Emergency work will be permitted,” the city said.
“The Limited Activity Zone will help ensure maximum useability of roads, sidewalks and cycleways so residents and visiting Swifties can travel safely and efficiently throughout downtown during the concert period,” it continued.
The zone is expected to include Spadina Avenue to Jarvis Street and Queens Quay north to King Street.
Back in July, city council approved a motion to rename the route from Rogers Centre to Nathan Phillips Square to “Taylor Swift Way” in honour of the pop star’s tour run in the city.
