Getting a home can be one of the most important decisions of a person’s life, but looking ahead to the future you want to build is essential to nailing the right option.
For first-time homebuyers who are just starting to navigate the real estate market, it can be overwhelming to get the right option, especially under a tight budget.
King Realty Co.’s agent Keanna Samuels explains that the first step she’d recommend for those trying to get their foot in the door right now is finding out what kind of lifestyle they might want to have, which can help them determine where to look.
For those looking for something quieter and away from the downtown chaos while staying on budget, the agent says Oshawa might be a great place to consider.
“A lot of people in Oshawa are moving on to Oshawa just because it’s a lot more affordable than the rest of the GTA. I think Oshawa is great for people that want to start a family or build a family in an affordable area, but also just want to be in a quiet area,” she said.
As a city with more land available, Oshawa also offers the opportunity for bigger spaces, including mostly detached homes and townhouses.
Although the city offers more affordable options than Toronto, for $500,000, Samuels explains it might mean closing on a smaller or older home. But with more development coming to the city, she says there might soon be more listings available.
“[A $500,000 budget] is definitely realistic, depending on a family, depending on how big your family sizes are, depending what you’re looking for,” she said.
“If you’re looking for a detached house, it’s not unrealistic, but the kind of house that you’re going to get is going to need a lot of work [or] is going to be pretty small.
For those who are just getting started on their search, here are some Oshawa listings under $500,000 to consider.
