Toronto weather: Thunderstorms, gusty winds and showers forecast for Tuesday

Torontonians may want to keep both sunglasses and umbrellas within reach on Tuesday as the city braces for a mix of sunshine, showers and the risk of thunderstorms.

Environment Canada is forecasting a sunny start to the day before clouds build through the afternoon, bringing a 40 per cent chance of showers and the possibility of thunderstorms later in the day.

Temperatures are expected to climb to a high of 24 C, with humid conditions making it feel closer to 26 C.

Wind could also be a factor for anyone spending time outdoors. Forecasters say south winds will strengthen throughout the day, reaching 30 km/h with gusts up to 50 km/h.

The weather could impact outdoor plans ranging from patios and parks to FIFA World Cup watch parties and Fan Festival activities across the city.

While much of the day is expected to remain dry, conditions are forecast to become more unsettled heading into the evening.

Tuesday night will see increasing cloud cover, with showers expected to begin near midnight. There is also a continued risk of thunderstorms overnight as temperatures fall to around 15 C.

Looking ahead

The wet pattern isn’t expected to disappear just yet.

Showers remain in the forecast for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, with daytime highs staying in the low-to-mid 20s. Saturday currently looks to be the pick of the week, with sunshine and a high near 24 C expected across Toronto.
