A video of a man boarding the Toronto subway on what appears to be a motorized vehicle is circulating online, prompting discussions over which modes of transport should be permitted on the TTC.

The man can be seen entering a busy subway car at St.George station on the bike, parking in the middle of the carriage and sitting down on the saddle.

The video was shared on reddit on Sunday by user u/Impressive-Trifle300 to an unofficial sub reddit dedicated to the TTC, with the title “ is this even allowed?”

One user commented saying, “TTC By-Law 1 actually prohibits motorized vehicles on the TTC,” while others shared their confusion over how the man was able to bring the motorbike into the subway in the first place.

“We need more officers and special constables to patrol the subways and start enforcing the rules,” one person commented.

But others didn’t see an issue with it.

“Tbh he’s not zooming around the train why’s it matter?” someone else said.

Stuart Green, a spokesperson for the TTC, told Now Toronto the bike in the video was likely an “elaborate e-bike,” nonetheless, “motor-assisted devices, unless for mobility purposes, are not permitted on TTC vehicles or in stations. Customers should alert any member of TTC staff or file a report on the SafeTTC app to report this. This would be subject to a $235 fine under TTC bylaw 1,” Green concluded.
