A massive fire that destroyed multiple homes in Yorkville on Wednesday is considered suspicious, Toronto police say.

On Thursday, police confirmed to Now Toronto that they are investigating the fire as suspicious at this time.

The three-alarm fire happened at a construction site along Scollard St., near Bay St. and Davenport Rd. and broke around 4:30 a.m. It quickly spread to other buildings and cars in the area, Toronto Fire said.

Videos of the blaze show a huge plume of smoke hovering above the site. No injuries were reported.

At least six homes were destroyed, and several others were damaged. Toronto Fire Deputy Chief Steve Darling told reporters yesterday that many of the buildings were centuries-old structures that were converted into businesses.

The Fire Marshal was called in to investigate.
