The long-awaited Toronto Caribbean Carnival is taking over the city this weekend, and we want to give you the scoop on some of the best Caribbean eats in the city to get you fueled up and ready to celebrate! 

No matter which island you’re representing or which cuisine you want to try, Toronto has dining spots with dishes from all over the islands. Here are eight Caribbean restaurants you should check out this Caribana weekend.

Chubby’s Jamaican Kitchen 

Locations: 104 Portland St.

Looking to try a ‘likkle’ bit of Jamaican food? Chubby’s is known for their smoky jerk chicken, along with other staple Jamaican dishes like ackee and saltfish and oxtail pea soup! 

With menu options available all day, from brunch to ‘island time,’ also known as happy hour, this spot will help get you ready to whine it out at Caribana!

Mona’s Roti  

Location: 4810 Sheppard Ave. E.

Take a quick trip to Trinidad, without leaving the 6ix, at Mona’s Roti! 

This restaurant serves Trinidadian-style roti wraps with fillings such as oxtail, beef, shrimp, and goat! You can even order a side of delicious doubles to complete the meal that will make you feel ‘Trini to da bone!’

Taste of Life Restaurant and Lounge 

Location: 5-9 Milvan Dr. 

Taste the flavours of the small island of St. Vincent at this restaurant! 

Whether you’re into Red Belly coconut slices, stewed turkey with plantain, pie peas, or Vincy-style wings, you have to give it a try! This restaurant will open your tastebuds to loving one of the overlooked islands of the Caribbean!

Simone’s Caribbean Restaurant 

Location: 596 Danforth Ave.

Make sure you come to this spot with your belly empty, because this place will leave you full! 

Simone’s has been featured on local news networks for having some of the best authentic Jamaican dishes in the city! From fried red snapper to callaloo, this is not only warm in temperature, but will be warm in the heart. They also offer  other island specialties, like assorted roti options.

Patois

The food, the ambience, and the energy in this spot will leave you speaking patois by the end of the night! 

This eatery is the home of Asian Caribbean soul food, where the flavours of the east and west meet to create the most delicious dishes. You need to try their jerk chicken chow mein and their oxtail mac and cheese, which will leave you wanting seconds!

Tropical Nights

Check out this Guyanese gem in Scarborough for a fusion of European, East Indian, Chinese, African, and Ameridian flavours that were introduced in the Caribbean.

9 Mile

Just look at that juicy, oxtail-stuffed patty! 

This spot is known for taking beloved Jamaican dishes and levelling them up! With flavours that go above and beyond the regular, their unique take on Jamaican cuisine will blow your mind!
