Events happening in Toronto this weekend: July 21-23

If you’re in search of what to do this coming weekend, then look no further because your weekly lineup of weekend events happening in Toronto is here. This week is festival galore, from the Lakeshore Ribfest and OssFest to the It’s OK* World festival at Trillium Park. Here is what you can check out:

Friday, July 21:

Lakeshore Ribfest 2023

The second annual Lakeshore Ribfest is taking over Colonel Samuel Smith Park at Lakeshore Drive West and Kipling Ave. The free festival includes four of North America’s best rib teams that will be ready to serve you some award-winning BBQ smoked ribs, tender pulled pork, smoked brisket, BBQ chicken, smoked sausage and huge beef “dino” ribs. Other festival foods include the classic bloomin’ onion, Tiny Tom mini-donuts, roasted corn, poutines, funnel cakes and of course, cold beer from the Great Lakes Beer Garden to wash it down.

RunwayTO

Enjoy haute couture and fabulous fashion at Runway TO, a not-for-profit event featuring six designers, 40 enchanting models, and three of Canada’s most celebrated artists, all of whom will showcase their creativity and talent. The organization invites you to an evening of elegance and style at Parkdale Hall, located at 1605 Queen St. W.

It’s Ok* World

It’s OK* World is a three-day festival showcasing the vibrant and diverse talent within the Black arts community here in Toronto. It’s a free event that will include music, art, wellness, tasty foods and cold-ish drinks. The festival aims to unite Black artists from across the city and bring them to a space where they can shine and share their stories.

Saturday, July 22:

Barket Market

Bring your pup and treat them and yourself to the Barket Market. Organized by Toronto Dog Moms, this free event features over 50 vendors selling products for both dogs and their respective owners. Those who attend can expect pet care services, treats, apparel, and more. This year, the Barket Market will be held indoors and outdoors at Parkdale Hall, located at 1605 Queen St. W.

OssFest

One of Toronto’s most popular street festivals, OssFest, is back for its sixth year. The festival takes over the Ossington Strip between Dundas and Queen streets. The event will begin with a health and wellness feature in the morning, then local businesses and a few artisans will display their unique products. In addition, there will be over 25 extended patios, alongside music and entertainment programming.

Summer Succulent Workshop

Spend the day at the Toronto Botanical Garden for a relaxing and therapeutic succulent workshop where you can learn and create your own summer succulent. Taught by succulent specialist and designer Molly Shannon, the experience starts with an introduction lesson to succulent care and designing with succulents, followed by hands-on designing of a planter with mini succulent plants. All materials required to create your own summer succulent planter will be provided to attendees. The event is from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Toronto Soul Music Festival

Toronto’s Rebel nightclub is hosting the Toronto Soul Music Festival (TSMF) on Sunday. Artists expected to be in attendance are DVSN, Jully Black, Glenn Lewis, Ray Robinson, Jester, Skitz, Kid Kut and more. This event is for those aged 19 and over, and ticket holders must present valid identification to be admitted. General admission tickets are $64.55 each. Doors open at 2 p.m.

Sunday Scene with Rhiannon Vogl at The Power Plant

Join Tkaronto-based writer and researcher, Rhiannon Vogl, for a Sunday Scene at The Power Plant at 231 Queens Quay W. There, you will examine the subjects of technology and news presented in Ron Terada’s exhibition WE DID THIS TO OURSELVES. This free event starts at 2 p.m. until 3 p.m.

Walk and Talk: Water Stories

Explore and enlighten yourself with the city’s history of water, land, culture and agriculture through Aga Khan Museum’s guided tours. The tour will lead you through the Don Valley neighbourhood, the Aga Khan Park, and the Aga Khan Museum. The tour is described as an immersive journey through 12,000 years of history from the time of the retreating ice sheets to the present. Tickets are $60 each and includes museum admission, a one-hour urban walk and farm visit, roundtrip bus ride, a light lunch, and a guided museum tour.
