
Happy weekend, Toronto! This weekend is a good one, there’s tons of activities perfect for Mother’s Day or for a day out with friends.
This weekend, there’s theatre productions, baking classes, a flower market and an art exhibit, among other events. Here’s what you can check out:
Friday, May 10:
SKéN:NEN
Watch an immersive Indigenous dance performance called SKéN:NEN at St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts, presented by TO Live. “Skén:nen” means peace and balance in Mohawk, and the performance highlights Indigenous resilience and the connection between the self, community, and natural world. The performance follows a young Kahnyen’kehàka girl who seeks to revive humanity’s spirituality and connection following a post-environmental disaster. She, along with other survivors, must find their place on earth as the environment is in recovery. The show premieres on May 10 and runs until May 11. Ticket prices start at $30.

In Seven Days
A new play exploring the impact of medical assistance in dying on family life is now on at the Meridian Arts Centre. In Seven Days, produced by the Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company, delves into the mind of a young Jewish woman as she navigates her ailing father’s decision to end his own life. Guided by the teachings of her faith and unconditional love she must learn to accept his decision.

Mother’s Day Classes at Le Dolci Culinary Classroom
Spend some quality time with your mom by taking her to a baking class. Toronto’s Le Dolci Culinary Classroom is hosting a range of Mother’s Day baking experiences all weekend long. Classes include a tiramisu masterclass, a cake decorating session, a doughnut class, a cinnamon bun class, and lastly, a sweet scone class. The first class of the weekend series is a tiramisu class which begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $99.

Saturday, May 11:
Toronto Flower Market
Grab some flowers for a loved one at the Toronto Flower Market happening at CAMH. This event includes more than 90 Ontario flower growers and local vendors from Laura Dawe, Lizz Aston and more. The free event is from 10 a.m to 3 p.m and CAMH is located at 1001 Queen St. W.

Chocolate Making Workshop
If you’re a chocoholic, you need to try this chocolate making workshop organized by Funky Chocolatier. The workshop will teach guests the act of creating mouthwatering truffles. The event is from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Centre for Social Innovation. Tickets are $69 each.

Mother’s Day Vendor MRKT
Treat your mom to a new trinket at the Mother’s Day Vendor Market. The event is free to attend and includes over 30 vendors selling handmade goods, such as crochet, art, candles, jewellery, and apparel, among others. There will also be delicious food and free kids painting. It starts at 10 a.m and runs until 4 p.m. at Mimico Square.

Sunday, May 12:
A Symphony of Colours
Visit a free art exhibit called A Symphony of Colours at The Coffee Tree Roastery. It’s organized by Toronto contemporary artist Rita Hisar and showcases unique paintings with bright vibrant colours. The paintings are expressionist-pop art style and are made using a palette knife and acrylic paint. It starts at 9 a.m and ends at 4 p.m.

Toronto Comic Arts Festival
Comic book fans, listen up! The Toronto Comic Arts Festival (TCAF) is here and it’s taking over four floors of the Toronto Public Library’s Reference Library and other neighbouring venues. This festival will feature hundreds of authors, creators, publishers from all over the world. In addition, there will also be panels, Q&As, workshops, kids-specific events, and other discussions. The free event starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m.

Unwritten: The Improv Show
Comedian Tim Blair, improvisation performer Lisa Merchant and comedian Paloma Nuñez have teamed up for a night of comedy at Toronto’s Young People’s Theatre. Unwritten: The Improv Show is described as pure in-the-moment improvisation and will discuss the power of “yes” and the fear of failure. Tickets range from $10 to $39 and the show starts at 2:30 p.m.
