
It’s the last weekend of September and to help make the best of it, there’s many exhilarating events happening in the city!
From music festivals to a vintage clothing show, there are various activities to check out this weekend such as Oktoberfest, the Global Toronto Music Festival and Pictures at an Exhibition with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
Friday, September 27:
Oktoberfest
Toronto’s first Bavarian-styled Oktoberfest has touched down for two days of German delights and traditions. From Sept. 27 to 28, Torontonians can indulge in the best of German culture by drinking the country’s finest beer and feasting on beloved German specialities. The event will also include folk dances, live performances, contests and a cabaret show. The festival is aimed at emulating the spirit and community of Munich’s famed festival. Tickets cost $40 each for general admission. The event is at the Downsview Airport Lands from 6 p.m to 11:30 p.m.

Pictures at an Exhibition with your Toronto Symphony Orchestra
Put on your best outfits, sip on champagne and cheers to a night of exquisite art and classical music! To kick off its new season, your Toronto Symphony Orchestra presents Pictures at an Exhibition, a three-part performance beginning with the works of Grammy-nominated composer Carlos Simon, and the inimitable Beethoven. The finale? Russian romanticist and innovator Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, in which each note is a brushstroke inspired by Viktor Hartmann’s artwork. Tying the evening together, you can even check out reproductions of some of the pieces in the lobby pre-concert and during intermission.

Fall for Dance North’s 10th Anniversary Season
Fall for Dance North (FFDN) is back to celebrate its milestone 10th anniversary with a fresh new lineup of performers and dancers. This year’s festival opens with its Homecoming 2024 Signature program that includes performances by Malpaso Dance Company (Cuba), The National Ballet of Canada, and Ballet Edmonton. Tickets range from $15 to $25 and the event runs until Oct. 6.

Saturday, September 28:
Small World Music’s Global Toronto Music Festival
Get ready to experience the vibrant energy of Small World Music’s Global Toronto Music Festival (GTMF) from September 28 to October 1, 2024! The inaugural event will make the city come alive with interactive hubs of live music, arts and cultural activities, engaging industry talks and networking events. Peace Ambassadors Gala
The annual Peace Ambassadors Gala is here and it’s inviting you to its formal black-tie event where you can sip on cocktails, food and network with like-minded individuals who are passionate about empowering women and supporting the values of peace and culture diplomacy. The night will include a cocktail reception, a three-course dinner, artistic and musical entertainment and late night refreshments. Proceeds from the event will go towards McMaster Children’s Hospital. The gala takes place at the King Edward Hotel starting at 5:30 p.m.

Toronto Vintage Clothing Show
Find and scour for some hidden treasures at the Toronto Vintage Clothing Show at Exhibition Place. Situated on a massive 50,000-square foot show floor, the event will feature curated vintage clothing, accessories, jewellery and handbags. In addition, vendors will also be offering household decor such as barware, kitchenware, and trinkets. Tickets are $15 each and the event is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Sunday, September 29:
Toronto Garlic Festival
Dupont By the Castle BIA is hosting a free garlic festival at 253 Spadina Rd. There’s going to be lots of dishes made with fresh Ontario grown garlic and vendor products on sale. Just make sure to bring a mint with you before you head to this event! The festival begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m.

Alex Da Corte: Ear Worm
MOCA Toronto has a new exhibit from Venezuelan American artist Alex Da Corte. Da Corte’s installation “Ear Worm” is described as a dreamlike environment that draws from areas of pop culture, sexuality, violence, cinema, children’s literature, and art and design history. It’s available at the museum from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults and $10 for students over 18 years old, those under 18 can attend for free.

Mukashi, Mukashi
Watch the North American premiere of Mukashi, Mukashi, a contemporary fairytale involving Western and Japanese folklore. The production focuses on two familiar fairy tale characters, the wolf, from Little Red Riding Hood and the crane, from The Gratitude of the Crane, who form a harmonious bond that puts them on a life-changing journey. The show is from 2 to 3 p.m. at The Theatre Centre. Tickets are $42 for adults and $18 for students.
