
Grammy-winning soul legend D’Angelo has died from cancer at the age of 51.
D’Angelo (born Michael Eugene Archer) died after a private battle with pancreatic cancer, according to multiple sources.
His relatives called him a “shining star of our family and has dimmed his light for us in this life,” the Associated Press reported.
Known as a neo-soul trailblazer, D’Angelo’s music blended Hip-Hop, soul and gospel roots. D’Angelo released three albums throughout his career including his 1995 debut Brown Sugar, 2000’s Voodoo and 2014’s Black Messiah with the Vanguard. He won four Grammy awards for his latter two albums.
D’Angelo is survived by three children.

DJ Premier, who produced his song “Devil’s Pie,” posted his condolences on X.
Such a sad loss to the passing of D’angelo. We have so many great times. Gonna miss you so much. Sleep Peacefully D’ Love You KING,” he wrote.
R&B singer Jill Scott also commented on his death.
“I never met D’Angelo but I love him, respect him, admire his gift. This loss HURTS!! Love to my family that are family to him. I’m so sorry. R.I.P. GENIUS,” she wrote.
And singer Doja Cat reacted to the news.
“Rest in peace D’angelo. My thoughts, love and prayers go out to his family and friends. A true voice of soul and inspiration to many brilliant artists of our generation and generations to come,” she said.
