Mike Myers received the prestigious Icon Award at the 2026 Canadian Screen Awards on Sunday, and the comedian used his acceptance speech to thank a long list of people and places, including Scarborough and the TTC.

Myers, whose career spans decades with iconic roles in Shrek, Austin Powers, and Saturday Night Live, was officially recognized as a Canadian film and television icon during the ceremony in Toronto.

Born and raised in Scarborough, Myers delivered a speech that had audience members both laughing and tearing up, a fitting reflection of the actor and comedian who has entertained generations.

He began by expressing his love for Canada.

“I had a whole speech about how much I love Canada, but I suspect some of you might be sick of hearing that at this point,” he joked.

Myers then thanked his late parents for immigrating to Canada, a moment that visibly moved him as he paused to compose himself. He said his parents taught him the importance of being silly and embracing humour.

The comedian also offered a playful thank you to Canadian taxpayers.

“I always say to my American friends, I’ve got a big ally on my side. I have 40 million people behind me,” he said.

At one point, Myers even gave a quick shoutout to the TTC.

“I want to thank the Toronto Transit Commission,” he said. “It’s a better way.”

He then paid tribute to his hometown of Scarborough, crediting it with teaching him what he called the “three Fs.”
