What to know

  • Ontario restaurants took five of the top 10 spots on Canada’s 100 Best list for 2026.
  • Restaurant Pearl Morissette in Jordan Station, Ont., ranked number one for the second year in a row.
  • The annual list is compiled based on judgments made by chefs, sommeliers, food writers and industry insiders across Canada.

Canada’s 100 Best, a site ranking everything hot in the culinary industry, has revealed the top 10 Canadian restaurants that might just send you into a food haze.

From French food to Asian cuisine, the latest Canada’s 100 Best list of restaurants is out, and five Ontario spots have made the top ten, including four right here in Toronto.

Just outside of the city, Restaurant Pearl Morissette made number one for the second year in a row. The spot has also placed in the top 10 for five consecutive years.

The French-inspired Michelin-starred restaurant is located in Jordan Station, Ont., about an hour’s drive southwest of Toronto.

“This is awesome. I recently joined the team in December, so this is amazing to be part of — and huge to be here, representing hospitality in Canada,” Restaurant Pearl Morisette General Manager Amy Stott told Now Toronto.

The restaurant operates on a revolving prix-fixe menu that changes with their garden’s produce.

“The menus are forever changing, but I would say the standout dish at the moment is the lobster, which you can see on the cover of the magazine,” Stott said.

The restaurant’s fans were ecstatic at the news.

“You all keep crushing and impressing. So well deserved,” one user commented on Instagram.

“So well deserved. Congratulations!!” another added.

Meanwhile, the other four Ontario spots on the list are right here in the city, including:

  • #4. Queztal, located at 419 College St.
  • #5. Edulis, located at 169 Niagara St.
  • #7. Alo, located on the third floor of 163 Spadina Ave.
  • #10. 20 Victoria, located at 20 Victoria St.

Meanwhile, plenty of other Toronto spots made the top 100, including aKin, a Toronto Michelin-starred Asian restaurant on Colborne St. which ranked 27th.

aKin’s chef Ryan Hoan shared that he felt honoured to be included.

“We’re pretty low on the list. But you know what, at the end of the day, lists are somewhat subjective… But the fact that we were even mentioned on there is still pretty cool,” Hoan told Now Toronto.

So, how is the list created?

Jacob Richler, editor-in-chief of Canada’s 100 Best, explained to Now Toronto that in order to create the list 160 judges, including chefs, sommeliers, restaurateurs, food writers and industry professionals across Canada evaluate their best dining experiences of the previous year, ranking them in order of their top ten. The points are then distributed among the nominated restaurants, and that’s how the top 100 restaurants list is compiled.

But what makes a difference between the top 10 and the rest? Restaurants that could compete in London, New York, or anywhere internationally and still get the same attention as they do in Toronto, he explained.

“There are lots of places in Toronto that I adore… 20 Victoria is one of my favourite go-to restaurants, or Alo, sitting at the bar, I love going there. But there are a whole slew of more casual restaurants that also appeal to me enormously here,” Richler shared.

To include more casual restaurants in the list, Canada’s 100 Best introduced C100B recommends.

“It aims to provide those casual restaurants that are suitable for any night of the week,” he explained.

In the coming years, Richler hopes to continue seeing confident chefs designing new culinary masterpieces.

“They’re more willing and eager to put their personal vision on a plate and expect people to react to just that — without filtering it through the expectations of what’s happening internationally,” Richler said.

How do Torontonians feel?

Toronto resident Victoria fully agrees with the top one: Restaurant Pearl Morisette.

“Canada’s 100 Best knows how to pick them. Pearl Morisette is dear. What a phenomenal experience. Farm-to-table, that duo. They just got it right,” she told Now Toronto.

She also appreciates Alo, 20 Victoria and aKin.

“Toronto really pulled in this year and I’m glad to see all the winners,” Victoria added.

Another Torontonian, Farid, agreed.

“For me, I really like Alo… It was pretty good to see them up there,” he told Now Toronto.

This is his second year attending Canada’s 100 Best event.

“It’s always good to come by, have a good time and try the different new things,” he explained.
