A new art gallery pop-up in Toronto is on a mission to make basketball more accessible, as the city aims to put a greater focus on the sport.
From Oct. 19–30, Torontonians can visit ‘The Future of Access to Basketball: Group Show,’ an art gallery which explores the intersection of art and accessibility to sport.
The free event is in collaboration with Lay-Up, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing free, community-based basketball programs in Toronto. The gallery is located in The Combine, a space which hosts live events, art shows, and speaker series.
“The group show highlights the work of four distinct artists who have captured moments of inspiration, empowerment, and community within Lay-Up gym spaces across Toronto’s neighbourhood improvement areas over the past five years,” reads the gallery site. “Their art sparks an ongoing conversation about making basketball accessible to all, uniting the community around this vital issue.”
The featured artists include Ebti Nabag, Neil-Anthony Watson, Sarah Del Angel, and Taha Muharuma.
Del Angel is a Toronto-based photographer who has recently captured photos of Drake and his well-known son Adonis, as well as moments from the 2024 Legacy Awards.
Meanwhile, Watson has captured household names including We Live in Time actor Andrew Garfield, Canadian break-dancer Phil Kim, and Home-Alone child star, Macaulay Culkin.
The gallery is open to the public, Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
