As we creep closer to 2024, there’s something playing on Canadian minds: Shake Shack.
The American burger chain announced earlier this year that it would be expanding to Canada with plans for the first location to open in 2024. The company plans to have 35 Canadian locations by 2035, starting with the flagship restaurant in Toronto.

Shake Shack will partner with local producers to create an experience that is unique to their Toronto location. The menu will feature signature items including the ShackBurger, Chicken Shack, classic crinkle cut fries, beer, wine and frozen custard.
TORONTONIANS SHARE THEIR EXCITEMENT FOR SHAKE SHACK
Shake Shack had a popup in Toronto back in 2017, and it seems like some people have been waiting for its return ever since. Online, some Torontonians are getting hyped for the U.S. chain to make its debut in the great white north.
“Best burgers coming to Toronto. Nothing compares, I’ve had them all,” wrote one Instagram user.
“Best acquisition by the city of Toronto since Kawhi.”
Meanwhile, some residents are skeptical about the new franchise.
“I can’t wait to line up for three hours to try this,” one X user joked.
“Nothing is ever the same once it comes to Canada.”
“Ingredients from different suppliers mean nothing will taste the same in Canada.
Others would rather see other U.S.-based chains started opening up north of the border.
“Call me when In N Out opens,” one person posted to X.
“In N Out or Raising Canes would be great.”
And some are looking for something different altogether.
“Bring back Licks already,” one person said on Reddit. “We miss Canadian burgers.”
“Dem sell oxtail?”
