The weekend is finally here, Toronto, and there is no shortage of fun things to do!

With grey weather and chilly temperatures, it has felt like a long week in Toronto. But it’s finally time to kick back and relax, and there are so many ways to unwind in the city over the next few days!

From free art tours to live performances, here are some of the events to check out in Toronto this weekend.

Friday, Jan. 24:

The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King – In Concert 

Calling all fans of The Lord of the Rings! This weekend at Meridian Hall, The FILMharmonique Orchestra is performing The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King in concert.

The show opens on Jan. 24, with four performances scheduled over the weekend, and will see 250 talented artists perform alongside the movie, which will be presented in HD.

DesignTO Festival

The DesignTO Festival is returning to the city from Jan. 24 – Feb. 2, taking over several venues across the city for a celebration of art and design. The ten-day, hybrid event features more than 100 free events and exhibitions both in different Toronto venues and online.

The majority of the festival is free, but some events and exhibitions require a reservation or tickets. Find out more about the DesignTO Festival here.

Saturday, Jan. 25:

Toronto Maple Leafs Outdoor Practice

From Jan. 25 to 27, head to Etobicoke’s Prince of Wales Park to check out the Toronto Maple Leaf’s annual outdoor practice event. Dubbed the “hockey block party of the year,” the free event is first come, first served, and includes three days of hockey fun.

While the actual 3v3 practice is on Monday, starting on Saturday, fans can enjoy various contests, enjoy viewing parties, take advantage of free skating, and more. 

The Spring Festival

Toronto is hosting a Lunar New Year celebration at Nathan Phillips Square on Saturday. The Spring Festival kicks off at 12 p.m., giving attendees a family-friendly atmosphere to celebrate the occasion.

The free event will feature various activities, including a fireworks display set to begin at 10 p.m.

Free Mural Tour on Dundas West

Learn more about Toronto’s Little Portugal neighbourhood on a free tour of over 30 different murals from different local and international artists.

This art crawl explores the Dundas West Open Air Museum, taking participants on a walk along Dundas Street W. to showcase different creations, from Lansdowne Ave. to Shaw St.

Mysteriously Yours Murder Mystery

Enjoy a good murder mystery? What about live entertainment? Commercial theatre company Mysteriously Yours is back with another murder mystery dinner show this weekend.

The event starts at 6:30 p.m. at Toronto’s Chelsea Hotel. Tickets are still available and start at $54.58 for show-only tickets or $138.72 for the show and dinner.

Sunday, Jan. 26:

The Wedding Show

If you’re engaged, you may want to head to the Hyatt Regency on Sunday for The Wedding Show. The event includes hair and makeup trials, cake tasting, professional consultations, vendor discounts and more. 

The event runs from 12 – 5 p.m. and tickets are $3.99.

Something Strange Sideshow Festival

The Something Strange Sideshow Festival is taking over Revival Bar and Event Venue for a day filled with unique shopping and performances.

From 12:30 – 5 p.m., Revival will be home to an oddities market with over 50 vendors for an all-ages shopping experience. The market will also feature performances from different artists throughout the day.

Then a 19+ show featuring “giants who are pain proof, Sinister freaks, mental marvels,” and more will take centre stage from 8 – 10 p.m.
