Canadian fashion brand Poppy Barley have released a handbag inspired by Toronto’s Annex neighbourhood.
Aptly named “The Annex bag,” the leather purse is structured, rectangular, and has a long crossbody strap. It comes in three colours – black, a beige nubuck and a snakeskin pattern.
Poppy Barley was founded in Edmonton by sisters Justine and Kendall Barber and proudly touts itself as a direct-to-consumer b-corp company.
According to Marina Eckert, Poppy Barley’s marketing project lead, The Annex bag is “named after Toronto’s iconic Annex neighbourhood, and is designed for everyday city life.” Eckert tells Now Toronto the bag is “versatile, functional, and quietly elevated” and it’s the brand’s reimagination of “the trending East–West silhouette.”
The brand says they’ve partnered with Toronto-based stylist Shira Herskop to help launch the bag’s campaign.
Justine, who was more involved in the design, stated “the Annex Bag moves effortlessly from day to night. With a cool shape, crossbody strap, and just-right size for essentials — and a little more.”
The Annex bag launched Feb. 19 and retails for $235 on Poppy Barley’s website.
