What to watch on Amazon Prime Video Canada in August 2021

Here’s everything new that’s coming to Amazon Prime Video Canada in August 2021.

Val

Actor, activist, cancer survivor – Val Kilmer has been a lot of things. And he’s captured almost all of them on film and video, which gave directors Leo Scott and Ting Poo some 800 hours of material to shape into this first-person documentary. Arriving on Prime just weeks after its Cannes premiere, it’s one of the films we’re most excited to see this summer. There aren’t a lot of careers as odd – and as distinctive – as this guy’s. Modern Love (season 2)

It’s time for eight more looks at profound connection spun out of the popular New York Times column, featuring the likes of Kit Harington, Anna Paquin, Isaac Powell, Dominique Fishback, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Minnie Driver, Sophie Okonedo, Lucy Boynton, Jack Reynor and Tobias Menzies appearing in stories shot on location in upstate New York and Ireland. John Carney returns as a producer, and directs a few of the new episodes; The Book Of Mormon’s Andrew Rannells writes and directs one of his own. August 13

Annette

Another Cannes premiere making its speedy way to Prime (after the theatrical release that starts August 6), this heavily buzzed festival opener stars Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard as a stand-up comedian and opera singer who fall madly in love and produce a daughter, the eponymous Annette, who changes their lives forever. Also, it’s a full-blown musical, co-written by director Leos Carax and the eccentric American rockers Sparks. No, we have no idea what to expect. That’s why we can’t wait to see it. August 20

Nine Perfect Strangers

It’s the Big Little Lies reunion you’ve been waiting for, as writer/producer David E. Kelley, star Nicole Kidman tackle another twisty-turny Liane Moriarty novel – this one about a collection of random people (Melissa McCarthy, Michael Shannon, Bobby Cannavale, Regina Hall, Samara Weaving, Melvin Gregg, Luke Evans, Asher Keddie and Grace Van Patten) who show up for a California wellness retreat run by the enigmatic Masha (Kidman) and her distressingly serene associates (Manny Jacinto, Tiffany Boone). Who’s hiding something? Everybody, probably! Isn’t that why people watch these shows? August 20
