Booka Shade

Rating: NN

Berlin tech-house heroes Booka Shade stray even further from the dance floor toward pop on their newest album, and appear to be in a fairly dark headspace. This could have been a great thing, but instead they’ve turned in an album of mostly plodding, mopey synth pop, with little of the innovative house music that made their previous work so vital.

It’s not a complete washout there are indeed some promising moments. Unfortunately, none of them get developed enough to compensate for the blandness of the rest of the album.
