This collaboration between the notoriously underrated Ron Sexsmith and Rheostatics bandmate Don Kerr is pretty bare-bones. Just an acoustic guitar and a smidgen of percussion accompany the two men’s harmonious voices. At first listen I hated it, but it takes time for the subtle beauty of Sexsmith’s and Kerr’s phrasing to grow on you, so repeated listening is key. While the folksy, almost church-basement overtones prove a challenge, the simple imagery and musical overlay of Sexsmith’s latest work is beautiful.
