The Garrison is reopening in September with a $5 concert series

One of Toronto’s most active music venues is finally reopening this fall.

The Garrison is coming back with a whole live music series featuring all Canadian acts. ALIVE will run from September to March 2022, bringing a ton of local and national acts (mostly from Toronto and Montreal) who are no strangers to the Dundas West venue’s stage. It also reads like a who’s who of acts who put out buzzy releases over the past year.

The series starts September 29 with rapper Cadence Weapon and also features dark-wave band Odonis Odonis, psych-rockers Hot Garbage, Mother Tongues and Possum, instrumental crew Badge Époque Ensemble, soul-jazz act Witch Prophet, folkie singer/songwriter Dorothea Paas, metal band Vile Creature and many more. Every show will feature support from at least one local act.

Each show will cost only $5. All proceeds will go to the Unison Benevolent Fund and the AMY Project (Artists Mentoring Youth).

“It’s no secret over the last year the pandemic has hit live music venues hard,” says Garrison and Baby G owner Shaun Bowring, who became a voice for struggling music venues during the pandemic and led a group of venue operators called Love You Live.

“With the help of FACTOR we are excited to present this series that provides a platform for local and national artists to return to the stage… Great for the audience, bands, venue and our community.”

It’s unclear what the capacity of these shows will be, but the venue promises to operate with health and safety in mind and follow all measures from the city and Public Health Ontario.
