A popular Jamaican patty supplier in Toronto is now 100% Halal for Ramadan

Fahmee Bakery is wishing their customers a happy Ramadan by switching all their meat suppliers to Halal butchers.

The Black-owned bakery is primarily known for its trapezoid shaped patties, but it also serves oxtail, doubles, curry goat, and other Jamaican specialties.

People can munch on one of Fahmee’s patties at Bathurst Subway Station or order on Uber Eats.

“’ll never forget you guys. When I was broke pocket, way back when, I lost my wallet, and had no money for the subway. Your family helped me out and got me home safe and also gave me a patty for the ride,” an Instagram commented on one of Fahmee Bakery’s posts.

Ramadan began on the evening of Mar. 10 and ends with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr on April 9.

Though exact timings are different around the world, Ramadan marks a time when Muslims fast from dawn until sunset with virtually zero food and water entering their mouths.

Fahmee Bakery announced it would be open during the hours of Iftar, an evening meal shared with family and friends to end their fasting.

In Toronto, Iftar starts around 7 p.m. and ends before the sun rises at 6 a.m., according to Islamic Relief Canada.

Fahmee used to have various store locations around the city, but had to shut down in 2023 due to the pandemic and operating costs.

Since then, the bakery has interacted with Toronto communities through various pop ups at Dixie GO station, Street Eats Market, Brockton Village, Mona’s Roti in Scarborough, and IKEA.

The bakery often collaborates with other small BIPOC businesses as well, like coming up with mac and cheese stuffed patties inspired by Mateo’s Munchies.

Now that the business is gaining traction again, it plans to have a physical location in Scarborough this year.
