Canada’s population just grew at a record-setting pace after reaching 40 million people on Friday.

Statistics Canada’s Population Clock, which models population growth in real time based on births, deaths and migration data confirmed the population milestone.

“This is an exciting milestone for Canada,” Chief Statistician Anil Arora said in a statement.

“It is a strong signal that Canada remains a dynamic and welcoming country, full of potential. As we head into Canada Day, this is certainly cause for celebration!”

Ontario has the biggest population in all of Canada sitting at 15,580,470 people in counting.

This is followed by Quebec with over 8,841,071 people. Nunavut has the smallest population in the nation with 40,924.

So, while many parts of the world grapple with the impacts of population decline, Canada just can’t relate.

In fact, between January 2021 and 2022, Canada added over one million people for the first time ever.
