Friends and family of Gabriel Magalhaes will be honouring his life in a candlelight walk Thursday night in the city’s west-end.
Magalhaes was a 16-year-old boy who was killed in an unprovoked attack at Keele Station on March 25. He was sitting on a bench at the lower level of the station when he was approached and repeatedly stabbed by a man.
Jordan O’Brien-Tobin, 22, was later arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

According to a GoFundMe page for Magalhaes, former classmates of his at Keele Street Public School organized the gathering, which will be held in High Park.
Magalhaes graduated from the elementary school in 2020. He was attending Etobicoke Collegiate Institute as a Grade 11 student before he died.
“Gabriel was 16 and he had so many dreams. He has a zest for life like no other. He was loved beyond meaning. Andrea always speaks so highly of both of her boys. She was so proud to be his mother,” Melissa Blow wrote, who is a family friend and created the GoFundMe page.
Organizers are asking the community to bring a candle or other light source to carry throughout the walk. They can also bring memorabilia, such as flowers and notes to add to Magalhaes’ memorial at Keele Station.
The walk will begin at the Bloor Street gates in High Park at 8 p.m., and end at Keele Station.
“I am heartbroken, shattered, I don’t even feel alive. Thank you all for everything ❤️ I have no words,” Andrea Magalhaes wrote in the GoFundMe.
