International Women’s Day 2019 march and rally in 10 photos

Thousands attended this year’s International Women’s Day march and rally in Toronto on Saturday, which started with speeches in a packed auditorium at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. There were also powerful musical performances before the march itself began on Bloor, where many others had already congregated for the day’s event.

Women of all ages and diverse backgrounds proudly held signs with messages of empowerment. Positive chants and loud calls to keep up the fight for social justice filled the wide boulevard along the route on Bloor and Yonge while onlookers cheered to add their support.

Drummers kept the energy alive throughout the march, which culminated at Ryerson University where several circles spontaneously formed for final speeches and dancing. The event was a strong reminder that women’s rights are human rights but still not fully recognized worldwide.
