An Ontario resident is speaking out about visitors allegedly defecating in the sand at Wasaga Beach.
TikToker @itsnattylxnn2.0 posted a video last week claiming that there are people coming to the beach, setting up tents and using the sand as a toilet.
@itsnattylxnn2.0 I am going to be making a series , i will be going down to the main end to show everyone the thousands of tents that are still up. No tourist respects tge no tent rule , also they still dig holes under tents to use the washroom nd i will be documenting it. #wasagabeach #foryoupage #fyp #beachproblems ♬ original sound – Mynamesnatty😈
“I am going to be making a series, I will be going down to the main end to show everyone the thousands of tents that are still up. No tourist respects the no tent rule, also they still dig holes under tents to use the washroom and I will be documenting it,” reads her caption.
Meanwhile, in her video, the user says she is fed up with people condoning the behaviour because she says it is what people do in other countries.
“I’m tired of people saying the people who are pooping on the beach, that’s what they do back home. We are not ‘back home’, we are in Canada. As a local, I refuse to let my kids dig in the sand on the beach,” she said in the video.
According to the user, this is not the first time this particular “pooping” issue has occurred.
“This is not just three years ago, this is today. This is this week. This is still happening. The tents are still up,” she said.
Now Toronto reached out to the Town of Wasaga Beach for comment but did not receive a response by time of publication.
However, Ontario Parks told Now Toronto it is not aware of this problem and that washrooms are easily accessible to guests on the Wasaga Beach grounds.
“Staff at Wasaga Beach Provincial Park have not observed this activity during their regular patrols of the beachfront or in response to any complaints,” the government agency said in a statement on Tuesday.
“Wasaga Beach Provincial Park has 11 comfort stations within Beach Areas 1-6 and 4 Mini Comfort Stations in Allenwood and New Wasaga that provide washroom facilities to visitors. They are located strategically in areas of high use and are very visible to the public from within park areas and from the beachfront,” it explained.
Ontario Parks adds that it encourages visitors to ask staff or contact the park office if they are unsure where washroom facilities are located.
Online, some users are shocked to discover the news.
“WHO’S POOPING ON THE BEACH?!?!” reads the top comment.
“It’s illegal to use the bathroom in public, call RCMP every time,” another user suggested.
“Canada has some of the best public washrooms from coast to coast. There is no excuse!” another user said.
Meanwhile, other users are claiming it’s happening in other beaches as well.
“I live near sandbanks. Same happens here. We don’t go any more,” one TikTok user said.
“I was at Sauble last year and the beach police came over to us because we had a beach tent and told us why they checked,” another user said.
“This is happening on Port Stanley beach right now,” another user commented.
