Pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo says she was recently mistaken for a wanted criminal while travelling from Canada to the U.S.
During an appearance on Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night to promote the release of her GUTS World Tour film on Netflix, the “drivers license” singer told the Tonight Show host that she was interrogated by federal agents while travelling to Portland, OR from Canada, who she later discovered mistook her for a wanted offender named Olivia Rodriguez.
Rodrigo described the situation in detail recalling 30 minutes of intense questioning, which she says prompted a panic attack.

“They take me to a room, and it’s an interrogation room, and there’s a big cop, with a gun, and he’s like, ‘have you ever been arrested?’” to which she responded no, she told Fallon.
But Rodrigo said the cop’s repeated prodding prompted her to question her responses.
“I’m like gaslighting myself, I’m like, ‘Oh my God, maybe I was arrested and I didn’t know it,’” she continued, adding that the officer told her she could go to jail for lying.
Eventually, the authorities realized their error and let Rodrigo go, but the 21-year-old pop-star told Fallon she was “pissed,” by the ordeal.
Since the interview aired, her fans have been reacting to the story online.
“It’s insane how cops won’t verify who they’re talking to and just drill them,” one TikTok user wrote.
“Lmao imagine being Olivia Rodriguez and watching Jimmy and Olivia Rodrigo giving you a heads up that the cops are looking for you,” another person commented.
“My husband has an extremely common last name and he is always detained by border patrol because of this,” someone else wrote.
Rodrigo is currently in the midst of her GUTS World Tour, which began in February in Palm Desert California and will end in Manchester, England, in July 2025.
