The surviving son of a family killed during a Lapu Lapu festival in Vancouver, B.C., last month is sharing the donations he received with family members of other victims.
On the evening of April 26, the driver of an SUV drove through a crowd at the Lapu Lapu Festival in Vancouver, killing 11 people between the ages of five and 65, and injuring dozens more.
Forty-seven-year-old Richard Le, 30-year-old Linh Hoang, and five-year-old Katie Le were killed during the attack. Andy Le, 16, is the sole survivor of his family, having stayed home to do homework instead of going to the event.
Following the attack, a GoFundMe campaign raising money to cover funeral expenses for Richard, Linh and Katie and provide Andy with financial support for his future college education was launched. The fundraiser closed on April 29 after raising $542,376.

According to the page, $266,588 of the funds raised will be donated to a charity, foundation, or organization supporting the Lapu Lapu Day Festival victims.
“The funds shall be distributed to either direct victims or indirect victims, regardless of gender, ethnicity, age and so forth, to cover expenses such as funeral expenses, education, counseling, medical expenses, and so forth,” the page reads.
According to the GoFundMe page, the remaining money will be used to pay for funeral costs for the Le family and legal costs.
“Once all costs related to this matter are accounted for, the remaining balance of the money will be donated to charity,” the page reads.
“From the bottom of my heart, thank you all so much. I truly appreciate each and every one of you,” Andy said in a video posted to YouTube.
“I know that many other families are hurting too, which is why I’d like to donate $266,000 to the other victims,” he continued.
The teenager is currently living with his grandparents, whom he explained helped to raise him.
