An alternative costume ball inspired by the legend of a Christmas demon who punishes naughty children will return to Toronto this December.
Krampus Ball is set to take place on Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Opera House for the eleventh year running.
Krampus is a human-like mythical demon who appears yearly looking to punish badly behaved children, but thanks to the fires of his spirit he is also celebrated in the hopes of a warmer winter.
Krampus Ball is designed to be inclusive, and to inspire magic outside of the usual festive realm. It celebrates the darker side of the holiday season with eclectic performacnes, a spectacle of fancy garb, music, circus aerial acts and burlesque.
The event allows party goers to “escape the day to day pressures of the holiday season, and stresses of the news, while immersing themselves into a night of otherworldly wonder and amazement,” Zirco Fisher, Krampus Ball producer, said in a news release.
Krampus Ball also provides an opportunity for costume makers to promote their artistic talents and for performers to embody the spirit of an unconventional Christmas, culminating in a welcoming yet wild party atmosphere.
Attendees are encouraged to dress up in demon-inspired attire that pays homage to the namesake yuletide demon himself, or any kind of festive being, such as a nutcracker or the Sugar Plum Fairy.
The event will feature a wide range of musical guests from alternative rock to electronic, including drum n’ bass, afro tech, and deep house from Squid Lid Ft. A.P.E., Remedy + Assassinburg and many more.
There will also be a plethora of attractions to indulge in, from Legacy Cabaret’s Freak Ridge, the Peak Point, PsyLush Peak Plounge, Zirco Fish Foto Forest, Krampus Merch, and the Naughty Kid Switch Cross.
