A large pile of discarded seats from the Rogers Centre was dumped at a York Region landfill.
A photo of the mountain of blue chairs surfaced on Reddit and has since gone viral garnering over 1,000 upvotes.
The seats were found at the Don Mills Metal and Scrap in Gormley, Ont., according to reports by CTV News.
But Reddit users have raised questions over the decision to dump the old seats.
“They’re actually throwing away those seats? They easily could’ve sold them and people would buy them,” one user wrote.
“What a waste of what I’m sure a lot of fans would have liked to own, and more garbage in our landfills. If they didn’t want to deal with it, then I’m sure that a number of charities would have gladly taken those seats and sold them to raise money,” another Reddit user said.
The image also invited plenty of opportunity for jokes following the Blue Jays failed postseason wild-card run last month.
“It would be more accurate if it was on fire,” one user commented.
The scrapped seating was ripped out as part of the Rogers Centre’s multi-phase refurbishment that includes a restructuring of the 100 level, along with the installation of new and more comfortable chairs.
Unfortunately “the seats were not salvageable due to their age,” according to reports by CTV News, but the revamped 100s will reportedly improve the stadium for enhanced ball-game viewing.
“Foul pole to foul pole will be fully demolished at the end of the 2023 season and rebuilt to introduce a modern ballpark experience,” the Blue Jays announced earlier this year.
The 100 level renovations follow the redesign of the 500 level Outfield District which was completed at the start of the 2023 season.
The multi-year $300 million privately funded renovation is expected to be completed between 2024 and 2025.
