Starting today, the City of Toronto is hosting virtual and in-person consultations to help residents understand its expanded free public wi-fi strategy and how they can benefit from it.
During these consultations, the city says they will inform residents on how to use free public Wi-Fi, speak on how city spaces can benefit from it and discuss ways the city can enhance the experience and identify areas where they can improve.
The city will also collaborate with community organizations to facilitate in-depth discussions with people who experience unequal access to digital technology.
This initiative is part of the city’s ConnectTO program, which launched back in May 2021. The program is aimed at improving the lives of Torontonians with expanded access to the internet.
Since then, the city says it has successfully installed free public Wi-Fi at over 100 locations across the city. This includes community parks, recreation centres, the St. Lawrence Market and select Toronto Community Housing Corporation locations, with more to come.
The virtual consultations will be held today from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m and June 18 from 1 to 2 p.m. Participants can also join the virtual consultations by phone.
The in-person consultations will be on June 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Driftwood Community Recreation Centre and June 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Heron Park Community Centre.
