Toronto police have issued a public safety alert after a woman suffered life-altering injuries from a dog attack in Etobicoke.
On Wednesday, police were called to an animal complaint in the Martin Grove Road and John Garland Boulevard area at around 8:39 p.m.
A woman was waiting at a bus stop when two dogs approached her without an owner present or leashes on, police said.
The dogs started attacking the woman who tried to defend herself with a personal shopping card. The dogs then dragged the woman to the ground and continued attacking her, according to police.
The woman was eventually able to seek safety in a passerby’s car. Another passerby followed the dogs and saw them attack a cyclist, and attempt to attack a resident in his yard and a TTC Wheel-trans operator who was able to close the doors in time.
Police said the woman was taken to hospital with serious, life-altering, but non-life threatening injuries.
Both dogs are described as black and white, with larger builds, and are possibly Pit Bull Terriers or a similar breed.
Police have released an image of the dogs in question.
Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the dogs and their owner as there is a concern for public safety.
