If you live in Toronto, then it probably comes as no surprise to hear that traffic in the city is among the worst in the world, according to a new report.

The new report by satellite navigation firm TomTom revealed that Toronto had the third slowest-moving traffic in the world in 2023 based on average travel time.

The study looked at 387 cities in 55 countries and six continents and ranked them based on the average travel time, fuel costs and CO2 emissions.

The report found that on average, it takes drivers about 29 minutes to travel ten kilometres in Toronto, an increase of 50 seconds compared to 2022. Depending on the time as well, it can take drivers even longer to travel that same distance.

For example, the report notes that Wednesdays between 5 to 6 p.m. is the busiest time for rush hour because it takes drivers nearly 38 minutes to drive ten kilometres.

In fact, Toronto drivers spend around 98 hours a year during rush hour. During this time, the average driving speed is 18 km/hr.
