Environment Canada has issued a yellow extreme cold weather alert for the city this weekend, with temperatures expected to dramatically drop from Friday to Saturday, and return into Sunday morning. In addition, the agency issued a special weather statement, as the cold is expected to be accompanied by strong winds and blowing snow.
Wind chills could make the city feel like -30 again this weekend, which Environment Canada says may cause risk of frostbite. Residents are being warned to watch out for cold-related symptoms, check on friends and neighbours, and carry emergency cold supplies, including extra blankets and jumper cables.
Additionally, a low pressure system is expected to bring 4–8 cm of snow to the city by this evening, along with strong wind gusts of up to 70 km/h. A cold front coming to the city this evening will also bring possible wind gusts of 80 km/h this evening.

Weekend forecast
The weather agency predicts the city could get 5 cm of snow on Friday, with local blowing snow possible late this afternoon. The snow will be accompanied by northwest wind gusts of 40–60km/h late afternoon.
Friday temperatures are expected to hit a high of -4 C, dropping to -19 C this evening, feeling like -31 overnight with the wind chill.
The extreme cold temperatures will continue into Saturday with a high of-13 C, feeling like -31 with wind chill and winds gusting up to 50 km/h in the morning. It’s set to feel like -22 in the afternoon, with a low of -20 C expected at night.
On Sunday, a high of -9 C is expected in the morning with a 30 per cent chance of snow. Temperatures will fall again at night, with a forecasted low of -16 C.
