Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over the weekend caused widespread flooding across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
On Aug. 17, Toronto-Pearson Airport recorded 128.3 mm of rain, making it the rainiest day on record at the airport.
The record-beating downpour caused multiple flight delays and disrupted Terminal Link Train services due to water leakage on the platform. Additionally, Convair Drive was closed due to flooding.

Although airport operations have largely resumed, many flights continue to experience delays.
The heavy rain also resulted in significant flooding on major highways and local streets, leading to traffic disruptions, hazardous road conditions, and road closures.
Highways 401 and 410 also experienced significant flooding, with some drivers attempting to navigate the water-filled roads.
Emergency responders had to rescue occupants from five vehicles stranded in high water on northbound Highway 410 at Highway 401 late Sunday afternoon, as per an X post.

The City of Mississauga posted updates on road closures and areas to avoid, noting significant water pooling in the northbound lanes of Highway 410.
Flooding was also reported in various locations, including inside a Costco store in Mississauga’s Heartland Town Centre and the parking lot of a McDonald’s in North York.
Many creeks and rivers throughout Mississauga, as well as some in Toronto, were either at capacity or overflowing into parks and greenspaces.
The Black Creek and West Highland Creek, in particular, were observed with elevated levels and strong currents, as per two Reddit posts.
The city has also closed several trails, including those along 16-Mile Creek, Cooksville Creek, Credit River, Little Etobicoke Creek, Mimico Creek, and Sawmill Creek.
Another Reddit user posted a video of ravine water raging after rain in the Islington and Bloor area. “The ravine is normally much lower and slow moving,” the user added.
The Humber River was also overflowing its banks just north of Bloor, with water seen flooding a parking lot, as per a Reddit post.
This morning, the City of Mississauga updated on X that it is continuing clean-up efforts and responding to calls related to the flooding.
