If you live in Toronto, you probably know someone who has had a bed bug problem. That’s just how common this issue is in the city. Orkin Canada has released its annual list of the “bed-buggiest” cities in Canada, with Toronto being the top bed bug epicenter for the fourth straight year.

Okrin Canada says these findings were discovered from the number of commercial and residential bed bug treatments carried out by the company in 2022.

Toronto is followed by Vancouver and Sudbury in the top three. A newcomer to the list this year is London, Ontario, which was not ranked in 2021 but is now number eight in 2022.

The top 10 bed buggiest cities in Canada in 2022 are:

  1. Toronto
  2. Vancouver
  3. Sudbury
  4. Oshawa
  5. Ottawa
  6. Scarborough
  7. Sault Ste. Marie
  8. London
  9. St. John’s
  10. Hamilton

“Bed bugs are known to live where there is a steady supply of food, and move from room to room through clothing, personal belongings, vacuum cleaners and infested furniture, making homes, hotels and businesses ideal spots,” Orkin Canada said in a news release on Tuesday.

With summer approaching and as people begin to plan their vacations, Orkin Canada wants to caution travellers about signs and traces of bed bugs and avoid bringing them in your home.

Some of the key signs of bed bugs include the following: live or dead bugs on bedding and small, confined places, spots of reddish-black fecal matter on bedding, mattresses or box springs, and groups of their eggs in dark crevices.
