Toronto scores the world premiere of Philip Glass’s new symphony. Alexander Shelley conducts Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra on tour with a program dedicated to the late journalist Peter Jennings. Soloist Blake Pouliot performs Korngold’s Violin Concerto, written at the fall of Nazi Germany; then Shostakovich’s famous Symphony No. 9, which made a mockery of Stalin’s regime; and there’s contemporary work by the Canadian composer Nicole Lizée. Presented at Roy Thomson Hall, home of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
