A top level American music executive now living in the GTA is hosting a free singing competition for music artists of all ages and genres to become recording artists.
From Oct. 19-20, local music startup The Singer’s Company is hosting its first “Singers Got Talent” audition at its North York location to provide Toronto and GTA-based singers an opportunity to develop their craft.
More than 30 Torontonians have already signed up for a 10 minute slot to sing two full original or cover songs in front of Canadian and American music executives while gaining industry feedback, according to co-founder Roy Hamilton III.
“I find that there is a real genuine humility and meekness to the people here in general, and that extends to the singing artist community too. Moreover, it’s no secret that a great number of Ontario singer-songwriters are currently some of the biggest recording artists in the world! That cannot be a coincidence. I feel there is a lot we can offer each other to move singers to the next level with world class authentic artist development,” Hamilton III told Now Toronto in an interview on Wednesday.
The Singer’s Company is headed by Roy Hamilton III, the grandson of legendary rockstar Roy Hamilton and the youngest Black record label executive at Capitol Records in Hollywood.

After the competition, Hamilton III and his team will select singers to help them develop their music careers through affordable services in songwriting, securing interviews, vocal coaching, radio airplay, and releasing music.
The audition is also an opportunity for young singer-songwriters to join the company to see if they feel comfortable and if it’s a right fit for them, according to Hamilton III.
Hamilton III has been working in the American and Canadian music scene for more than 30 years, including co-producing “Stutter” by Joe Thomas and Michael Jackson’s smash hit “Shout”. He was also the executive producer of Keith Sweat’s gold status album Rebirth and the musical director for Cheetah Girls 2 summer world tour.
In Canada, Hamilton III was hired by music executives from the Backstreet Boys to help develop George Nozuka’s debut album Believe which was the number one hit on Much Music Daily 10. He also co-wrote the first song release from Degrassi star Ana Golja.
When Hamilton III eventually moved to Toronto, he co-founded The Singer’s Company with Canada music veteran Jeff Watson and Chicago native DJ Wayne Williams in 2019.
Over the past five years, the music startup has published 75 digital single releases with over 10 million total streams and singers from 20 countries.
The Singer’s Company also runs a separate Christian gospel branch. After the recent backlash of potentially cutting the gospel genre from the JUNOs, Hamilton III hopes the singing competition is a chance to work with more young Christian artists.

“We currently have a successful Christian/Gospel department and a hit single with Canadian Gospel trio, TribeNine Music, called “Rhythm of Life,” [which is] currently at 150,000 streams. Our Gospel music executive, Chris Ramnath launched a Piano Worship Music album as well,” Hamilton III said.
“We also have Lhana Stefani who recently released her debut single, “You Are Not Alone” with more than 5k streams! I have a gospel song called “Holy Spirit (Yeah YeahYeah)” that features The Singer’s Company Choir and currently has 2,000 streams,” he continued.
