CBC TV greenlights Tallboyz II Men comedy series

Tallboyz II Men, a Toronto-based comedy troupe, is getting their own show: Tallboyz. The half-hour comedy series has been greenlit by CBC to start production next month.

Produced by Bruce McCulloch (Kids in the Hall) and Susan Cavan, the show will feature Tallboyz II Men doing their thing bro humour and political satire, which they displayed in their Fringe 2018 hit with the cheeky title A 6ix NNNNNN Revue. Its guaranteed to hit on themes of race, toxic masculinity and friendship.

McCulloch and Cavan have produced comedy shows before McCulloch Kids and Carpoolers, Cavan The Kids in the Hall: Death Comes to Town and McCulloch’s own Young Drunk Punk.

“I am blown away by how funny, fierce and modern they are, said McCulloch, in a CBC press release. [They’re] very original, surprising and sweet.”

Tallboyz is an irreverent and thought-provoking sketch comedy series that will introduce four brilliant new comedic voices to audiences across the country, said Sally Catto, the general manager of programming for CBC, in a press release.

The show starts production in April in Toronto for broadcast on CBC and on the CBC Gem streaming service in the fall.

Tallboyz II Men, composed of Vance Banzo, Guled Abdi, Franco Nguyen, and Tim Blair, has been recognized by comedy festivals around Canada, including the Toronto Fringe Festival, where they won best comedy, and the best of the fest award from Montreal Sketchfest.
