A new R&B festival is coming to Ontario, and the lineup features some serious heavy hitters.

SomeKinda R&B Festival is bringing world-class talent to the stage for a weekend filled with feel-good vibes, soulful music and more. This all-ages event is going down at St. Catherines’ Montebello Park on Labour Day weekend (Saturday, Aug. 30 and Sunday, Aug. 31), with the festival running from 1-11 p.m. both days.

Featuring two different stages, the weekend’s lineup includes R&B stars Muni Long, Mariah the Scientist, and Kiana Ledé.

Festival-goers can also look forward to performances from Canadian superstars like Aqyila, FRVRFRIDAY, and TheHonestGuy.

Meanwhile, cultural curators like Somebody Anybody, DJ Killa Kels, and Tay-Jean will be keeping the good vibes going with different activations throughout the weekend.

The festival was founded by a collective of promotional and production companies, including Good Folkes Company, No Boundries and 925 Agency.

“We wanted to join forces to create something that we felt was really lacking in the music infrastructure of Canada: a large-scale urban R&B festival,” Amber Folkes of Good Folkes Company told Now Toronto.

“We have so much great talent here, and there’s not really anywhere to platform them, so that was one of our primary goals when we started. We just really wanted to give, especially Canadian talent, an opportunity to be on a big stage with international acts in front of fans of the genre.”

She explained that it’s important to continue developing the infrastructure of Canada’s music industry.

“We have so much talent, and it really means a lot to them to see support from all areas of Ontario and Canada,” she explained.

“While it’s amazing that we have these large international acts, it’s going to be really important to show support for [local] acts, which is a primary goal of ours, and we’d just love for the community to do the same and come out and support the talent that we love growing in the city and in Canada.”

As an organizer and fan of R&B, what she’s looking forward to most is seeing people enjoy themselves.

“I’m really looking forward to everybody singing out and laughing, and just the emotion that R&B music invokes in everybody, I’m really looking forward to seeing that come to life,” she explained.
